ABS Injection Moulding Expertise

ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) is one of the most versatile engineering plastics for injection moulding. At Moulding Injection, we process all grades of ABS including high-impact, flame-retardant (V0), electroplating-grade, and glass-fibre reinforced variants on our fleet of 50-450 ton presses.

Our 30+ years of ABS processing experience means we understand the nuances: optimal melt temperature ranges (220-260°C), the importance of material drying (80°C for 2-4 hours), and how to prevent common defects like splay marks and weld line weakness.

Material Properties & Grade Selection

Standard ABS offers an excellent balance of impact resistance (200-400 J/m notched Izod), rigidity (flexural modulus 2.0-2.6 GPa), and surface finish quality. We help clients select the optimal grade: Novodur (INEOS Styrolution), Terluran (BASF), or Cycolac (SABIC) depending on requirements.

For demanding applications, we process ABS/PC blends (Bayblend), ABS+GF composites, and ASA for UV-resistant outdoor parts. Each grade is validated in our lab before production commitment.

Manufacturing Capabilities

Our ABS injection moulding cell includes automated material handling with central drying, robotic part removal, and in-line quality inspection. We mould parts from 0.5g to 3.5kg with wall thicknesses from 0.8mm to 6mm.

Surface finishes available: high-gloss polish (SPI A1), textured (VDI 3400), matte, soft-touch overmoulding. We achieve painting-grade surfaces directly from the mould, eliminating secondary finishing costs.

Quality Control

ISO 9001:2015 certified. Every production run includes first-article inspection, SPC monitoring of critical dimensions, and colour measurement (spectrophotometer). Material traceability is maintained from resin lot to finished part.

Industry Applications

Our ABS parts serve automotive interiors (dashboard components, trim), consumer electronics (housings, bezels), medical devices (non-contact enclosures), industrial equipment (covers, handles), and consumer goods (toys, sporting goods).

Frequently Asked Questions

What surface finish options are available for ABS parts?

ABS accepts virtually any finish: high-gloss mirror polish, textures (leather grain, sand blast, geometric patterns), matte, and even chrome plating. We can match any VDI or SPI standard directly from the mould.

What is the cost advantage of ABS vs. engineering plastics?

ABS typically costs 30-50% less than PC or PA66 while offering comparable mechanical properties for many applications. We help clients evaluate whether ABS meets their requirements before specifying more expensive alternatives.

Can you mould recycled ABS?

Yes, we process both virgin and recycled ABS (PCR). For non-critical applications, we can incorporate up to 30% recycled content while maintaining mechanical properties within specification.
